Atari 7800
Just picked this old lady up from Frank and Sons last night here in Cali at my favorite seller (Mike from Classic Plastix). I had a 2600 as a kid but I don't know the library very well. Ill likely put some bids on ebay lots and start there.

Re: Atari 7800
I had a 7800, it was cool, definitely looked cooler than my 2600. I hated these joysticks (in your pic) though, and much preferred the 2600 ones, or a sega genesis controller. Also, the 7800 is bw compatible with 2600 games, BUT the cartridge slot on mine was too narrow for the plastic cartridge of imagic brand games, the ones that had this type of cartridge: which was a shame b/c imagic games were some of the highest quality and most fun 2600 games imo.

I only had my mom's 2600 growing up, and we naturally destroyed it as kids. I never really went back to it as an adult, stuck to the NES/SNES/GEN era mostly until the optical era. I remember very little about it myself, but thanks for the tip about the imagic games, I haven't started buying up Ebay lots just yet so ill need to keep my eye out. I have some 2600 controllers to replace these, but I do like the matching look they have.

Re: Atari 7800
Had one of these guys about 15 years ago. Compared to the 2600 this was 'arcade perfect'. Ms Pac Man was my favourite. It was just too late in the day to compete with NES etc, but it's conversions of early 80s arcade games where wicked. rarer and pricier than the 2600 obviously. Hang on to it.

I've had a 7800 for years. I always wanted to get Ninja Golf for it, but never have been able to find it....maybe one day.
