Dreamcast VGA to Sony PVM-20M4U Monitor

So I got extremely fortunate and picked up a PVM monitor today. I have a Hanzo VGA box that i'd really like to use on it and would like to know if there are any possible ways of connecting the VGA to the PVM. Is my only option to buy a "scan converter" in order to convert the signal into a format the PVM will accept? I know people recommend the Extron Super Emotia units to connect VGA to PVM. Does anyone have any direct experience with this sort of setup?
