Connect adapter directly to router phone line possible?

Post by BagoZonde »

Hello!
This is my first post here, so I'll introduce myself in few words. I'm a big fan of Dreamcast (especially because of PSO, Jet Grind Radio and Omikron), and I'm happy user & collector since 2005 or so. I've beated Phantasy Star Online on normal and hard mode and almost on very hard mode for now and one of my dreams which should cast is playing it online as title of this game say :]. By the way last few months I've connected my Commodore 64 via ethernet card so for now I want to be "online" with my Dreamcast too.

I have Modem Adapter 670-14116A in my Dreamcast and I want to go online with it as Broadband adapters are too expensive. As far as I know, revision A is better than revision B as it does not require voltage (however it was mentioned about 670-14140 so I'm not 100% sure it includes my modem version too).

I was reading some guides and I don't have any additional voice modem to attach however I'm using Linksys WRTU54G-TM router where two phone lines are included, so, is there any possibility to connect my Dreamcast with this Modem Adapter 670-14116A directly to phone line in router? I don't know how to configure it via Windows or Ubuntu, however if it's possible in any way, please let me know.

Thanks for any advice!

P.S. I was looking for topics on this forum and I've not found answer, however if it's somewhere here, sorry for duplicate!

Do you have VoIP phone service through the phone ports on your router? If so you could try dialing a free dial up ISP from DC. It may or may not work depending on the provider of the phone service. I have heard that vonage does not work but some others do. There is a list of some free dial up ISPs here: http://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtop ... f=3&t=3175

Alternatively your other two options with the modem are PC-DC or netopia method:
PC-DC

Well, no ISP here as far as I know. I must ask my provider as I'm really not common with ISP. If it's possible, I'm not sure what's my credentials so I will investigate it.

I've read about these methods you mentioned before however they needs external modem that's why I've created this topic :). I want to connect adapter directly to router phone line. Any other ideas? Maybe there's some method to emulate modem connection?
