So, basically, they're assigning 'Gumi Inc.' to take care of distributing their mobile games in the foreign market i.e. everywhere that isn't Japan?
The question is, and this is legit as I know nothing about the mobile gaming market, are Gumi Inc an exceptional company? Will them being publishers of Sega's mobiles have that much of a consequence abroad? I've never heard of seen them.

Don't make war! Play video games.
Re: SEGA teams up with Japanese networking to bring SN overs
Gumi,Inc is a Japanese social networking distributor that establishes server networks for select partners and publishers, what this means is not only with the partnership will SEGA be able to run more and larger mobile servers for its mainline Social Network titles like PSO2,Chain Chronicle and Sonic Dash just to name a few. The deal will allow SEGA to open and establish larger DNS servers overseas by using Desktops to run the networks on their own interface.Tachikoma wrote:So, basically, they're assigning 'Gumi Inc.' to take care of distributing their mobile games in the foreign market i.e. everywhere that isn't Japan?

So, through Gumi,Inc, SEGA won't have to establish overseas Sega Networks,Ltd divisions for running all the large networks in each designated part of the world and also through Gumi,Inc, distribution of the games on Google Play and Android will be handled.
Sega is pretty much spent as a 3rd party company. Going mobile as well as
cutting all the way back on console game development has given them lots of opportunity to consider changing course as a company.(Its what they SHOULD DO.) SEGA is in excellent financial shape and DOES have alot of cash and money(indeed $7 billion: http://quotes.morningstar.com/stock/sgamy/s?t=SGAMY) the problem is, SEGA just isn't cutting the mustard as a 3rd party brand, and they aren't seeing growth in it either. It can only help them to try other ventures and newer markets. A company with $7 billion in cash should spend that on trying to establish capital in markets that suit them well and in markets that are easier to profit in. Not on making overpriced Triple AAA 3rd party titles that would fail either way.
Though it, can't be confirmed or clarified Sega is apparently planning their own App service for downloading and playing mobile games.
Though so far, the only thing I've found in regards to what it might be called is this "Cathode" IP:

Than again, this sounds more like a specially licensed software development tool of some sorts.
We'll see soon, as soon as Sega starts publicly discussing more details on this deal.

I wonder why Sega would be making their own app service though. Sega has their games on Apple's and Google's. Isnt that enough?MrSega wrote: Though it, can't be confirmed or clarified Sega is apparently ping their own App service for downloading and playing mobile games.

Simple. The mobile market is still very niche and the market penetration is fairly small. The solid revenue and high profit margins are there but the potential, growth and stabilization of mobile gaming is ripe. Though many download games from Google Play and iOS, there isn't a major gaming player streamlining their own mobile gaming network app that can invite more well known publishers and developers into the fold thus opening the market further. Most Japanese ones are already pushing more effort into mobile games and getting their more well known IPs on board.l33tsegafan wrote:I wonder why Sega would be making their own app service though. But Apple isn't going to allow Sega to create a separate App Store to their own on the iOS devices and therefore that will just leave Android which is already saturated with lots of app stores.
Also there is no advantage for the other publishers to going with this hypothetical Sega store instead of just putting their games out on the big established ones from Apple, Google or Amazon.
It could also hurt Sega since they would effectively be competing with Apple/Google/Amazon especially since Sega is no longer involved in hardware. (Which is a BIG shame! I'd love me some new Sega hardware to play with!)

Apple runs their own exclusive OS and apps. SEGA's app is designed primarily for the Android market. While there are multiple App stores, SEGA is thinking from a Japanese standpoint, there isn't major gaming input on mobile apps outside of iOS,and the Android gaming market is still relatively small and unexplored.
NEW SEGA hardware? That is something Sega has been planning for a very long time. Mainly because the company's VP Naoya Tsurumi is not only the lead architect of the Dreamcast,(No Joke) He also worked as the lead Engineer supervisor at Sega Away and AM4, during the mid 1990s. Tsurumi has been leading the charge for Sega to come out of retirement, and is the company CEO Haijime Satomi's right hand man.
SEGA has reportedly 2 planned products (A Notebook style non x86 powered game console designed to compete against Wii U,PS4, and Xbox One codenamed "Nu Genesis" originally planned as a mobile family friendly tablet http://trademarks.justia.com/852/64/kid ... 64286.html with and a NEW high end from the ground up 512-bit console/Arcade board codenamed "Athena" or Dreamcast NeXt) and has been trying to clear all SEGA home consumer licensing designation worldwide for 2 years now, they are waiting on the WIPO to correspond the name change of their Business moniker "Sega Corporation,Inc" to "SEGA Entertainment Corporation,Ltd Worldwide". My sig is actually the full bible application for SEGA to cause a simultaneous shift in business and name brand change at all of its divisions. The Sega Networks is a red herring and has ALL of SEGA's old IP hardware license registrations tied to it.
SEGA's hardware status is fairly complicated right now. The ideas, patents, budget, affordability, management,R&D is all in place. The "Nu Genesis"'s final name is either "RINGWAVE" or "Sega Spectrum" which has been recorded in the Japanese Trademark Office but has NOT yet been assigned Madrid Protocol to the US Trademark Office. Masami Ishikawa Sega Away27's original founder and lead designer of all 3 of SEGA's first platforms: SG-1000,Mark III, and Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, dropped a hint in September of last year, that you can read on this forum section.
Believe me when I say this, SEGA DOES have a new product waiting in the wings and is trying to get it ready for the latter half of 2014. They are waiting on the Madrid IR designation so they can officially retire the Sega Corp DBA moniker they've used since 2000.
You also don't realize that SEGA is planning their own Mobile device line too: http://trademarks.justia.com/791/45/tokio-79145334.html
It already underwent quiet test marketing in the UK Amusement Markets, and is no longer available. There's a topic on that too here as well as photos of the prototypes.
SEGA has lots of things planned outside of 3rd party gaming(They're planning their own Search Engine to compete against Yahoo as well.) Trouble is, they just haven't publicly discussed or hinted them yet. So all of this is dismissed as speculation. But that doesn't mean none of it is true. The ideas or certainly on the table.

Mr.Sega, you were just told 2 weeks ago, speculation, against the rules. You should have been banned by now, years ago, but we have been generous. Not telling you again. This topic is being locked. You have a blog for a reason, keep your theories/information on there, please. At this point, it's become very disrespectful of you to continue posting speculation and ignoring admin/moderators/user warnings. Not only has the staff warned you several times, but members as well.
