Unable To Get Online

Post by Rhys17 »

I'm a new member to this site and it is really cool you are reviving the Dreamcast and putting games back online, I used to play a-lot of Phantasy Star Online and other games. :D

But now I'm unable to get my Dreamcast online again I have tried alot of techniques to get it online but none seem to work. My Dreamcast has a 56k model A Modem; with my internet plan I only can use Broadband (can't use Dial-up at all), I was wondering if there was another way around using my 56k modem with broadband cause I can't afford to get a Dreamcast bba, wish I had the money to get one, so is there another way to play my Dreamcast online without having to do swap tricks or using multiple modems and phoneline simulators; cause I just don't have any money can you please HELP ME :?:

No. You've ruled out all possible ways to get online, which are:
  • Use a dial-up ISP with a phone line
  • Use a phone line simulator and other special networking hardware to let the DC's modem leech your broadband connection
  • Use a BBA

I'm not sure if you counted this out, but if you have an old WinXP PC with an old voice modem, you could do a PC-DC server setup. Being you have a model A modem, power over the phone line will not be an issue. The tools are free (I used a Linux Ubuntu iso, WinXP OS, VMware and an internal modem that worked). There is a guide here to help you as well (thanx to Ryochan7 & brourke). You will have to spend time, though.

This is all that there is (that I know of without spending money)...no other magic to help you here. VoIP killed the modem connection.

I found an old router and I can update the firmware and a whole heap of other stuff all I need now is a phone line simulator, what brand would you recommend?

Look, you need a router which has dial-in capabilities, ie it has a modem you can dial to from the Dreamcast, which then shares the broadband connection to your Dreamcast. You cant use just any router and expect it to work.

Alternatively, you could buy a USB-modem on Ebay and set up a PC-DC server through linux or some old Windows version.
