Is my laser dying?

Post by RebornProphet »

Ok, you guys have been great help since I joined and I'm hoping someone help me out again.

I received my Dreamcast yesterday, fired it up and rekindled some old memories. I've got Crazy Taxi, SEGA Rally 2, PowerStone, and MSR.

When I loaded up PowerStone it all looked good. Got to the title screen, pressed start. Character select screen loaded fine, picked my fighter, and stage one loaded. While playing, the background music stopped completely around 10 seconds into the 2nd round. It would still play the music when you collect the 3 stones, but go silent again once the powers wore off.

Once I won the 2nd round the game tries to load the next screen where you see your next opponent but it doesn't/can't. It sits on the splash screen with the PowerStone logo and the pieces of the map/paper?

As it does this I can hear the lens move up and down the track trying to read the disc but it can sit there for a good 20 seconds and nothing happens, so I return to the dashboard. When I try to load the game up again, it will get to the "under license by SEGA" screen and go back to the dashboard.

The other games I have work fine, but this copy of PowerStone is mint. The only other worry is that while Crazy Taxi works fine with no issues, while running with the title screen/intro it shows an error saying "Disk Could Not Be Read, Please Check The Disk a For Dust and Scratches" but it loads and runs fine.

Have I bought a console about to give up the ghost?

Thanks guys.

Could be just a dirty old lens. Refer to this old post I should bump right now because I think its important to clean your lens properly. don't use alcohol or strong cleaners!!! Check this stuff out! We have fixed a lot of "broken" dreamcasts just by renewing the lens. great stuff called maguiars plastx
