I've recently gotten a Dreamcast and I've been burning as many games as possible. In my searches I've found many old games and .cdis are referenced but no longer accessible. I love finding obscure random games so I see this quite a lot, and it's really interesting to me - but annoying that I just cant seem to find some of these. Some examples:
There was a cdi for an OpenSonic DC port, but the mega link no longer works, and I messaged the author, to which he responded by saying he no longer has it.This one's a little goofy, but I see old Junkyard/Misc forum posts mentioning ports of those old NSFW Qix arcade games, but no uploads seem to exist. However, I found mention of a similar game called "Lady Killer" in a 2006 code challenge forum thread which lead me to finding the files to be able to build a cdi and burn it, and it ran! But crashed incredibly early lol.
There are other instances as well, but I was wondering: does anyone else know of any other "Lost Media" (lol) DC games, homebrew or not? It's really hard to find a good .cdi archive that is consistently good/comprehensive, but I've found none that are exhaustive. I understand that gdemu is a much better option, but I among many others are limited by that, and it's kind of unfortunate to see cdi's get less attention because gdi is, well, better.

To add to this, another I can never seem to find is O.To.I.Re Dreamcast Sequencer. Such a cool program, and cdis have existed for it, but they 404 and I cant find any others. Def more of a problem for smaller JP titles

Re: Lost/Forgotten CDIs/Games
There’s a homebrew game from 2006 called memoria that’s mentioned in forums, it was some kind of rpg but there’s no info on it besides a failed kickstarter to remake it, I talked to the creator but they never ended up sending it to me
I think I have the open sonic port but it’s only 1 level long and really buggy, apparently the developer moved on to a different sonic project and didn’t go any further with it. There used to be a link with a lot of old files in it I’ll try and find it and see if it’s still active

Re: Lost/Forgotten CDIs/Games
Yeah, it is on there! Unfortunately it doesn't even boot, lol. That google drive has a lot of cool stuff in it, I just spent around an hour burning CDs from it and unfortunately the only one that worked was the Mega Man Collection.... Also got a DM with a bunch of awesome games that unfortunately dont run either. Those CDIs that are like 20mb unfortunately never burn right for me..... maybe its because the lowest burn speed my external cd drive has is 10x and discjuggler loves to make it go even faster lolgalaxygod wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2024 6:21 pm There’s a lot of random old ports and stuff in this google drive, I found the link in here years ago and it’s still good, open sonic is in here for sure https://drive.google.com/drive/mobile/f ... nHWl3mg3tE

Re: Lost/Forgotten CDIs/Games
Use ImageBurn. Here is the link and it includes the special patch to burn DC games ---> https://dreamcastlive.net/files/imgburn_2.5.7.0_dc.zip
It could also be the CD-R's you are using, being the problem. Some CD-R's just don't do it for the Dreamcast. I recommend Memorex discs and many other people advise Verbatim discs
You need a VA1 model Dreamcast as well to read CD-R's (A few VA2 models will do it too)
But just in general...a Lot of the weird, oddball games just don't end up working when you try to get em. It is the risk you take for wanting such a niche version of typically hombrewed games sadly.

Re: Lost/Forgotten CDIs/Games
I'll try memorex! I used imgburn when I first started but I heard some people advise against it - but it honestly treated me a little better than discjuggler does. I've been burning on verbatim discs and my dreamcast is the right model - burning just is super finnicky lol.

I don't know why, Padus' DiscJuggles is mandatory for me and @ 24x fast writes for all my casts. ImgBurn everything else for me 4x zero flaws

Re: Lost/Forgotten CDIs/Games
For LadyKiller, which is still a not so bad game even if it is affiliated with NSFW, it was found on a link Lady Killer DC.zip concerning the Mame ports because it is a game from the arcade. The only problem with this port is that as soon as the game wants to save, it unfortunately bugs, I was never able to finish the first board, and I don't know how to remedy the problem.
