Burned Backups Stuck at "SEGA" logo

Post by Miniseekie »

Hey all, recently got a VA2 for cheap locally and installed a Japanese Cake bios chip to re-enable MIL CD compatibility. I'm pretty confident in my installation and no components nearby appear to be damaged.

Prior to the bios installation the DC would not even recognize burnt games, now it seems to authenticate as they will load to the "Licensed by/Produced by SEGA" screen which makes me believe the new BIOS is working. The problem is I cannot seem to get any of them to get in game - either they will get stuck on the SEGA screen or the screen will go white for a minute or two before booting back into home BIOS. I've tried 2 different drives and 2 different CD Rs at multiple burn speeds as will as adjusting the laser - it seems to read audio CDs just fine as well. Tried using both DiscJuggler v6 as well as IMGburn with the cdi files. Had a friend bring over an official game prior to the bios installation as well, so I don't believe the laser or drive is really the issue..

Any ideas as to what may be causing this?

if this is version 1.033, then you need to reflash the bios to version 1.032

The chip I purchased was 1.032, and the main menu shows 1.032

Oh, my VA2 reads/plays burned cd audio as well, but will not play a burned cdr. Long, long time ago I read that most VA2 will play a mil cd burned cdr, but are very FINICKY. There was an article about this that I currently can't find. The guy had an original (no longer made) Taiyo Yuden brand disc that worked in VA2's. He used the disc to show customers their VA2 could actually read a cdr. I suspect something similar may be going here.
