As for the Racing Simulation 2 I thought you'd much better do on the On-line version since it has been network multiplayable ala DreamPi for years now

I recall F1 Racing Championship crashed+burned after a bit, it hated either of my Dreamcasts, the genuine GD
Oh it's the same game? Interesting, the US/PAL download section has both and since those seemed to be similar to 1G1R sets, I assumed they were different

Edit: Wait, actually, I'm confused...does the US release of MGP have online play?

Edit 2: OK, I actually meant to ask ateam to patch Racing Simulation 2: Monaco Grand Prix On-Line after all, I misspoke

Oh, is "Monaco Grand Prix: Racing Simulation 2" in PAL the same game as "Monaco Grand Prix" in NTSC-U?

EDIT: Well, per Sega Retro, they are in fact the same game. Guess that was a bit of a waste... haha.
You know what, that's actually my bad...I actually did mean Racing Simulation 2: Monaco Grand Prix On-line, not the other one :)

Now, the thing I'm not sure of is whether the US version has online play? It seemed like maybe it didn't?

Just tested the patches for Toy Racer and F1 Championship Racing and they seem to work fine!! Thanks again @ateam!

Here is the list of the remaining PAL games I've found that only work with 60Hz over S-Video by either selecting an in-game menu option or by booting them with Codebreaker:

Code: Select all

Aqua GT
European Super League
Exhibition of Speed
F1 World Grand Prix II
Giant Killers
Headhunter
Jimmy White's 2: Cueball
MoHo
Planet Ring
Pro Pinball Trilogy
Stunt GP
Taxi 2
UEFA Dream Soccer
UEFA Striker
Sega Worldwide Soccer 2000

Happy to hear it!

That said, I have at least half of these on my SD card and they've worked fine with DCDigital in Cable Detect mode converted to Component. I will revisit though.

This is also true of Evil Twin for me, which is an odd one. Half the people who tested it on NTSC televisions had no issue, whereas others did. I speculated earlier in this thread, but have no idea.

EDIT: I did a quick test before bed of Aqua GT. It works fine upon boot. If I go to display settings and run 60hz test, it works as expected (no perceivable change). Then, it reverts back to 50hz and BVM flickers. Haha, wtf. I wonder if this is some (beneficial) quirk of DCDigital, even though I have it in Cable Detect mode and thus it should be behaving just like S-Video/Composite.

EDIT: Online multi exclusive to this and only this PAL variant, NTSC-U had none neither

Thanks for sharing, but my issue with this title is that I can’t seem to force it to 60Hz when playing over S-Video through my Retrotink2X-Pro. That’s why I was hoping ateam might take a crack at patching it.

So I took a look at this game and it was harder to patch than some of the others, but here's an NTSC 60hz version for Composite/S-Video. This game had no 60hz support whatsoever. In fact, the game goes out of its way to ignore initializing NTSC mode

I had to not only force the Kamui Library functions to execute _kmInitNTSC, but I also had to tweak the calls to _kmSetDisplayMode to use the proper nDisplayMode parameter input (KM_DSPMODE_NTSCNI320x240 instead of KM_DSPMODE_PALNI320x240). To figure out the value used in assembly for this parameter, I simply compared the call to _kmSetDisplayMode in UbiSoft's NTSC-U release (without online capabilities). Without doing the latter, the game booted in NTSC but the image was too tall, and a lot of it was cut off on the bottom.

Part of my efforts with these patches has been to (selfishly) ensure my own CRT setup won't have any blind spots. Because all of the games you've listed (at least the ones I've tested) are working fine for me, I will admit patching these is not top priority.

I like to help others of course, but I've also got many things competing for my time! If I get around to inspecting any of them, I will update here.

Honestly, I'd love to put out a collection of patches for all of the PAL exclusives that don't natively support 60hz, so I'll try (one day).

In the meantime, you can grab the online version of Monaco I just posted above. Only unique offering there is online support with DreamPi.

Thank you so much! I also admit that I was hoping for patches for the selfish reason of saving myself an extra step when launching the games

The good thing with all those listed is that I can just boot them with Codebreaker or select their 60Hz menu option and they work fine.

I’ll try out the MGP Online patch later tonight and report back! Thanks again as that was literally the last game on my list that wasn’t booting correctly for me!

If you can specify exactly which games from your list have a 50/60hz option and which don't natively support NTSC at all, it would be helpful for when I eventually get around to tackling some of these.
