Unusual Dreamcast issues - Any help would be appreciated :(

Post by xxMarka »

Hey guys! I just got a Dreamcast and it is having some issues that I cannot find anywhere else online. I made a video, and if anyone could point me in the right direction, I would REALLY appreciate it. I just want to play some Dreamcast games =]

The video is right here:

interesting problem you have. its almost as if the OS is corrupt. try clearing the internal memory. you need to burn planet web version one and hold a combination of buttons while it starts up. i doubt this will fix it but its worth a try. i would open it up and see if some one has tampered with the clock trying to overclock it. who knows maybe they screwed up the ram?

=\ well, at least it was only 13$ total.. and I got two controllers and a memory card...I guess I'll buy another one lol..

He said that it "might not play games" but that he wasn't sure because all his games were super scratched, but that it played audio CDs. Logically, it would make sense that it would read games, since they are just CDs too, but I didn't take into consideration that it could just be a video issue.

TL;DR but thanks guys :P

Indeed, get a new dc, something inside is broken beyond repair, it's the 1st time i see that.

Dude that sucks lemons! Are you trying to repair it, or is a replacement the only option?

Also its quite sad to know that there's a Utopia CD you can burn if you want to screw someone on ebay with a broken DC. Not the first time I've heard about this

I didn't really get screwed..he said that it "played audio CDs" but that all his game discs are scratched so he didn't know if the issue was the discs or the console. I just figured that logically if it plays audio CDs, then it should play game discs, but the issue turned out to be something other than the laser...

Anyways, my friend says he should be able to replace the capacitors, so we'll see how that turns out.

And tosk, I don't really see how Utopia contributes to ebay scams, what do you mean?

Ah :) I Just read the bit that said "If you bought this on ebay you have been screwed" and thought that a non-working version of Utopia had been made specifically for the purpose of conning money out of people on ebay

Now that I reread that, I see it means that its a free disc you shouldn't have paid money for

Now there's an embarrasing post :)
