From what I understand, the dial option in this game still has to go through a server and isn't 100% p2p, unlike something like saturn netlink. But I've never tried it so don't take my word for it.

Old topic but today was watching some 99 E3 footage, noticed something that reminded me of the Footage PC shared a while back. Seems at E3 they had the network option setup with different DC's on the floor. Had not seen anyone post about it so figure id throw it here

Don't get too excited by this post as it not related to online racing ; just the old online leaderboards.

The old Sega Rally 2 Dreamcast rankings can be viewed at archive.org. All US, European and Japanese rankings were hosted by Sega Japan. It seems the US and European rankings ended in late 2001 while the Japanese ranking lasted until 2003/2004. The best results were on the Japanese side. Here are the links:

The main Sega Rally 2 site can be viewed here: https://web.archive.org/web/20020802152 ... ly.com:80/. It seems you required a confirmation key before posting any times. There was also a BBS for both Japanese and Western players, plus a basic player's guide. Unfortunately the western BBS is a little 'foul mouthed'.

Archive.org has preserved this site very well probably because the webpages were quite basic. While it maybe nice to have an active leaderboard on this game, it's nothing that could not be replicated 'offline' (ie, a group of players having their own best time competitions).
