Help for a new Dreamcast user

Post by mike_sheree »

Hi All, I have only recently discovered the joy of the Dreamcast after purchasing one online. Its the first sega I have owned since the Master system.
Please can someone give me a step by step guide to downloading Mame and roms to play on the DC.
I have a PAL Dreamcast as I am in New Zealand and use mac 0sx 10.5 as my comp.

Cheers Mike

Alright, well, first things first, I guess getting online.
You would have to either buy a BBA{broadband adapter} off
of ebay, which are very exspensive, and then get a network cable
to plug into it. Or, get a phone cord to plug into your Line
adapter of your DC. Also, you could set up a PC-DC connection.

the dc isn't made to play home burned games on a constant basis, it kills your lens in the long run.
why don't you just play mame on your pc, like everyone else (myself included)

Oh my. Mac user? I am too, but it is just about impossible to burn DC games on a Mac. I learned that the hard way. If you want some DC games, you need some CD-R's, and a decent PC with a free trial version of Discjuggler. It is (in my opinion) the easiest DC burner available.

Cool. Thanks for that guys. Is there anything that will allow me to play NTSC games on PAL like my gamecube freeloader?

utopia bootdisk, just google for it, you'll find a free download here or there
or you can pick up something called the DC-X off ebay, for a few bucks, it allows you to play import and (this be the important part ;) ) it can trick the dreamcast into playing certain non-vga games on a monitor.

providing you play on a monitor of course & if you don't, I highly recommend it, look for a vga box/cable & hook the dc up to a monitor, you'll never play on a tv again

vga is the way to play

Well, if you buy PSO PAL or Q3, you can play online using
a BBA or dial-up connection with your DC for NTSC.
