alright thanks everybody
and Gary_b, I'm not looking for games that will compete with HD graphics, I don't even have a ps3\x360, I only play old games.

You could give Dragonriders a go. It's a long sprawling adventure with very good graphics and has a mixture of questing, fighting, stealth and minigames.

One of the best adventure games with huge environments is Omikron:Nomad Soul. There is a whole lot to do and explore in the game, coupled with really atmospheric graphics and music.

In fact both games have similarities with the Shenmue series so I'd say you should give both games a try.

Sonic Adv 2 has good graphcis for that era, soul calibur, virtua tennis, quake 3 arena, resident evil code veronica, le mans, ecco the dolphin, metropolis street racer.

All of them had the best dc graphics, shenmue 2 as well.
Nice try you fool! lol BBQ!

Well, the thing about Shenmue is, the graphics aren't just good for that era, but it stands up and can compete with current gen graphics.

It just goes to show how far developers can push the limits of a system, if the equivalent of Shenmue was done to a modern console, I can't Imagen anything less then a yard of grass with each piece of grass modeled individually, each leaf and ridge on a tree done by itself, each brick in a building, each feather of a bird, the equivalent to life.

Even though it helped kill Sega with the outstanding budget, it is a work of art, dedication and time that hasn't been matched for the ten or so years since its been released. It is a testament, and something that helps symbolize the Sega we all knew and loved.

While I somewhat agree with you ,you cant say it hasnt been matched.Shenmue 1+2 is to the dreamcast as shadow of the colossus is to ps2.Both of them brought their respective machine to its knees every now and then(especially shadowof the colossus, game ran about 15 fps most of the time).Whats impressive about shenmue isnt the polycount(it seems to be pretty standard there) but how it all comes together with its atmosphere, story telling and of course great gameplay.Though I still wonder why it took 70 million dollars to develop, dont see what they possibly did to take up that much.

That's quite easy to asnwer, nowadays open world games and motion captures moves and mouth are easy to develop and use, but back then they didn't exist in games.
Shenmue is the pioneer in open world games like this ( sandbox is the term, gta 4 , etc.. ) it took that much because 1 they overdid it, most of the stuff they spent money in were for the minimal details, and the game was remade a few times.

I worded that badly, here is what I said.

I didn't mean it to come across as the game itself not being matched, but the making of it.

I too wonder what they did to spend that much money.

It took so much money because not all of the money went to shenmue 1, some of it went to shenmue 2 and maybe even to early drafts of shenmue 3.
If you look at videos of the saturn-shenmue you can see characters from shenmue 2, meaning that shenmue 1 and 2 were developed pretty much at the same time.

The whole shenmue project, from the very begginings in the early 90's costed 70 million dollars. The whole development team went to china to get "inspiration".

Even Suzuki had to put money off his pocket for it.
