Well I was looking at the Open Pandora Project, which is a community supported project that was made by a small group. Basically I was thinking about The VM Scene, that pretty much died, The Dreamcast 2 that Most likely will never come to life, the BBA, SD Cards, and a controller that has dual analog.
Is it possible for the community to work on a BBA to market for thoughs who want to code, and play online games and even for the others who develop for the console enable online, play or scoreboards maybe even DLC.
But my main idea is a new controller for the dreamcast that also doubles as a VMU itself. kinda like a GBA or PSP Layout. But MY Button layout was a bit different but nothing to extra. And the Controllwe has a recharagable battery and an internal SD or Expandable SD card to save content more than just one game. Hopefully has the same data transter and functions of the VMU so there not much to change with it.
I have no skills in Hardware i'm more on the artist side of things and concepts. But if anyone knows about the hardwar and the dreamcast and how the VMU works aswell ss the controllers we can bring and expand upon the DC a bit more. My idea that i also have is it to not only act as a controller but be an actual console to play the dreamcast titles on its own. But I don't know how much it will take to create one of these. but it shouldnt be too expensive because the parts are dated.

Re: OpenDC Project ?
I am a realist, but also a dreamer. The realist side of me convinces me this will never ever happen, but the dreamer inside me looks at how the amazing little SD adapters were created in China and marketed to the world for a nice profit.
Only thing I can show you, is the dual analog controller.

Finished and cleaned up product.

As for a BBA, some Japanese guy was making one with off the shelf PC parts, but he never really got it working online, I think the firmware wasn't working or something for it.

Re: OpenDC Project ?
The biggest problem is the limited number of people with the skill to pull a major move off. The small things (like the sd card reader) was easy to assemble and produce. But the team that made the program is a very small unit. Lucky for the world they didn't want to make a profit off of their programs.
A fanboy like myself can build or pull wireless stuff out the wazoo for any sega system just because thats what I enjoy, but by myself I can hardly do anything but build things for just myself.
It would be a better idea to literally hire and pay a group of skilled & experienced programers and hardware crafters to do work like this. This is probably the only way anything dreamcast related will make any leaps and bounds past a new game or two every year.

Re: OpenDC Project ?
Well I Was just looking at it as not just a small group but the community to contribute to ideas on what i think that my ideas could bring back the VM scene and aswell as broaden dreamcast development. Cause The Open Pandora Project basically that device Has new specs to the Dreamcast. My idea is like it being a Dreamcast Portable that doubles as a controller/VMU without it having to have an actual link with the console.

Re: OpenDC Project ?
I have been following Pandora for like 3-4 years now, and by this time, it is over priced and obsolete. I would rather get a brand new netbook with a 10 inch screen or a PSVita and mod it and run a Dreamcast emulator on it.
I am SURE NullDC could work on it, we just need the system to come out first.

Re: OpenDC Project ?
Well im not promoting the Pandora. Im more on the side of creating one with similar features for the dreamcast. That Works as a controller and a VMU. in one. I mean it could help the VMU Scene and help on creating mini games and having more memory for games. since the VMU size is very small.Anthony817 wrote:I have been following Pandora for like 3-4 years now, and by this time, it is over priced and obsolete. Re: OpenDC Project ? Modem Idea
I was just looking at my PS2 Slim that i got for free. never even turned it on to see if it worked. I noticed that it came with a Built in Broadband that the Original PS2 Didnt come with. Anyone know about the Broadband on the PS2 and how it works? maybe we can get an idea and a possible solution for the Dreamcast. Cause I do recall the first PS2 having an external modem similar to the dreamcast, and the second generation being so much smaller and having it built in, but unable to have the hard drive.
