Coloured Replacement Shell

Post by DroidXero »

Hi guys,
First post so let me know if this should have been in another section or whatnot.

I'm looking for one of those coloured replacement shells for the DC to save my nice white one from yellowing doom. They're practically impossible to find online so wondered if anyone here has one they'd sell me? Not bothered about colour, so long as it's not yellow!
Am in UK but don't mind paying shipping costs providing they're not too extortionate.

Thanks in advance ;)

Hi mate, welcome!

I once bought 2 and still have one working dc with a replacement coloured case, mine is see through blue right now but I also had a red (I say red, I mean Pink!) one unforunately it broke and I kinda hated the shade of "Red" so I launched it ages ago! SORRY!!

You can protect your white shell from the aging yellowing by simply keeping it out of direct sunlight / natural light, and not smoking cigarettes inside near it.

Replacement systems are only around $25, less if its broken mechanically, so it would probably be much cheaper just to stick with what you have and if it ever tarnishes, just get another dreamcast.

Its always handy having an extra around due to the failure rate on some of the parts.

Don't know if you fancy the shipping charges, but I found replacement cases here

Its perfect for me, I'm in the UK :) I'll be replacing my incredibly grubby DC case as soon as I can afford :)

Yes, sadly I have scoured the web looking for these shells or similar and found that all stock has disappeared from all the outlets that once stocked them.

I bought a few, a grey, yellow and blue one, about five years ago plus a selection of all-over stickers including various football team themes and a Resident Evil one. I sold them on Ebay a couple of years ago and they attracted almost a hundred bidders. I ended up making a considerable profit which just shows that there is still a big demand for such items.

What was the retail price on those back in the days?
I think its strange that there are no labour camps in china who makes this anymore.

There was one at ebay a week ago, it went for 40$ (i think).
I could not make an offer since the seller didnt want to send it to Norway!

I can't remember the exact price they sold for but maybe less than $20. At least nowhere near as much as they go for on Ebay sometimes.

It wouldn't cost an awful lot for someone to make another run of these things in China for example.

Huh, but they are not worth more then 20 bucks anyway!
You get a Hello Kitty or a Sega Sport dreamcast for 80 bucks used so!

I guess the marked dont demand that much Dreamcast accesories!
The Communists down there proberly dont want to program their youth to produce Dreamcast stuff, if they can ship out XB360 and PS3 stuff for the same price and 1000 times the demand!

At the end of the day, the Dreamcast kicks ass anyway  No matter the colour:)
