CDs not reading but sometimes reading?

so i have some backups of old games i used to play.

however, i'm encountering a new problem.
the game will spin up for a brief period of time, then not do anything and stop.
i can verify the backup works because once in a blue moon after several disc repositions, tray opening and closing and powering on and off, it WILL load.

sometimes, if i click play in the menu when it recognizes it's there, it'll stop loading on the boot screen and send me back to the BIOS.

i have no idea why it's doing this. help?

Your laser is probably getting weak. You'll either need to adjust it or get a replacement Dreamcast.

you need to try to slightly increase the resistance on the laser head and try to play, it should help for a while. have to buy a new laser head
