funny dreampi bug

Post by mazonemayu »

I have this funny bug:

whenever I play pso I always get disconnected after exactly 25 minutes online...unless...I beat a boss (the dragon in this case, as you can't make it to the others in under 25 minutes  ), then it does not disconnect and I can keep playing for as long as I like.

if I do not make it to the boss and DO get disconnected, I can stay online for as long as I want the second time I connect so this it's not really a problem. I also tried logging in, manually disconnect, log back in > this simply resets the 25 minute "limit" I have... it has to disconnect all by itsself for it to "work"

I've had it before but never paid any attention to it, but lately I started making memo's & record connection times, etc...

it's not that big a deal, but this is a strange one...

Does this happen with any other games? Which version of PSO are you playing?

That's really strange. Maybe an issue with the PSO server. I can't imagine it's a problem with DreamPi.
PSO Characters:
Teal'c - lvl 119 HUcast - GC# 11666
Alto - lvl 39 FOnewm - GC# 12964

The only reasons you'd get disconnected on the server's end would be if a) the DreamPi is sending a corrupt packet, or b) the server can't reach you for 2 minutes, in which case it'll assume you've crashed or something, so it'll kick your "ghost" to allow you to log in with that GC# again.

If you want to test the first possibility, play on Iselia or Altimira and let the 25 minute disconnect occur, then tell me so I can check the server logs to see if there's a record of an unknown packet.

now that you mention it, I forgot to mention I always play on Vega when I get disconnected. I played on Altimira for about 50 minutes straight yesterday. I'll try again on either of those ships today and let you know what happens

testing:
I did this with completely rebooting the DC & the Pi between each game

Iselia: 21" > disconnected in mid game (mines)
Vega: 1h 04" > disconnected the moment I beat the boss (mines)
Altimira: 12" > disconnected in mid game (mines)

seems to be entirely random today

hope that gives you something to work with

Well, there's nothing in Iselia's logs that suggests that anyone has been disconnected in the past 24 hours due to a bad packet or a ping timeout, so I'm pretty reasonably sure this is not on the server side.

I didn't look at Altimira's logs, but if it wasn't the case on Iselia, it's likely not going to be the case on Altimira either.

It might be worth noting that Vega has been broken for a while; GC users can't even connect anymore. It's anybody's guess if your problem is related, but Vega has definitely not been working properly lately.

It could be something wonky with your setup along the way (phone line, modem, LVI, or even something else related to your home network). Unfortunately, I wouldn't really have any idea where to start looking, as I've never dealt with a DreamPi setup.
