Hi there does anyone know of a boot disc that can force a game to boot in either 50 or 60Hz. I have a PAL Dreamcast and had previous modded it to be 60Hz but a lot of the game web browsers and Dreamshell do not display correctly so I put it back to 50Hz.
Is there a boot disc that can for a game to boot in 60Hz?
Any help would be great.

Did you end up getting it?mrneo240 wrote:There is yes. Can't link but I'll get it this week
What was it that allowed forced booting in 60hz?
Was it DC-X?

if you plug in a vga or hdmi cable 50hz or 60hz doesn't matter thats why I went that route I couldn't play PAL games at 50hz on a CRT tv

I don’t see the problem, most PAL games give you the choice of playing in either 50 or 60hz when you boot em.

True but some games can be forced with a boot disk not all there are like 100 or something that don't work with vga/hdmiIan Micheal wrote:Indeed same here but there is a few that dont work with vga but i dont think it's worth the hassleDarkVampire295 wrote:if you plug in a vga or hdmi cable 50hz or 60hz doesn't matter thats why I went that route I couldn't play PAL games at 50hz on a CRT tv

True, but there's a lot of games which don't:mazonemayu wrote:I don’t see the problem, most PAL games give you the choice of playing in either 50 or 60hz when you boot em.

Also a lot of NTSC exclusives, such as Armada, Cosmic Smash, etc:

In the end I found that the Code Breaker disc for Dreamcast forces games to boot in 60Hz, so my problem was solved. I didn't even need DC-X in the end.
I keep hearing people talk about VGA. Can you use this on a CRT TV? Because I only have a couple of crappy flatscreen desktop monitors and an old 720 TV that accept VGA input. None of which will allow lightguns to be used. I don't see the appeal in VGA.
Even if I had an old fashioned CRT VGA monitor, for computers, those things are tiny. My Quintrix CRT is absolutely massive, compared to VGA monitors. I like gaming on a couch in front of a big CRT TV. Not hunched over a little VGA monitor.

Re: Boot Disc to change 50/60Hz
Let’s be honest here: 80% of that list are garbage games anyway, and there’s really no need for rpgs to be played in 60hz either
And yes you can use vga on any device that has a vga port, but imho it’s kinda useless on anything else than a crt (some hdtv’s have it too), using it on anything else but a crt still gives you imput lag and it stilldoesn’t look as nice than on a crt. And the caveat obviously being that a bunch of the great games do not support vga (bangai-o, last blade2 to name a few). It is one of the reasons I ended up going back to rgb, coz at the end of the day most games support it, I think I only have one or 2 games atm that don’t (Centipede comes to mind), but I just use my composite cable if I want to playit (which is almost never anyway
). There’s also games from certain regions that only support one or the other: US Skies of Arcadia supports vga, but no rgb, while its PAL counterpart supports rgb but no vga, only the PAL version of Giga Wing supports rgb, and so on…
I’ve been using DC-X for almost 20 years nog, and so far I have yet to en ounter an import game that didn’t boot, same goes for code breaker btw
