DC not reading discs
Hi, my DC has stopped reading most discs and freezes up on others. I watched some online guides on recalibrating the lens. Can anyone tell me if this will work or can I buy a replacement laser assembly. Im shit scared of doing irrepairable damage to my DC

If your Dreamcast already doesn't work properly, you have nothing to lose by trying to increase the strength of the laser. If you break the system in the process, it doesn't really matter. Used Dreamcasts are cheap, and if you don't try the recalibration, you have to buy one, anyway.

Re: DC not reading discs
well let me tell you from personal experience, when my dreamcast had that problem i first tryed the calibration but i could never get it right, it would read fine some games while others wouldnt even boot, after a few more tries another set of games would work fine when others again woulnt even boot, so i just gave up and got a new laser assembly and it has been working fine ever since, so the thing i advise you is to try the calibration first if it doesnt work or if you cant get it right try and get a new laser.

Performing the calibration blindly would probably be very difficult. You need to use an ohm meter to measure the resistance, so you can adjust it in fine increments.

Well, if you folow the guides basics i am almost sure you won't break anything, i know it may scare you, but give it a try or ask someone to help you.
Might take a few tries but eventually you will get it right.
If calibrating the laser doesn't work, get a replacement optic unit, it's easy to replace them.
