MvC not reading

Post by bullet50000 »

I understand this is probably simple, just trying to make sure I'm not crazy. I bought the original MvC from an eBay deal, and it's having issues. I boot the game, what looks like a developer intro screen, cuts out very quickly like the A button or Start button is pressed, goes to an intro credits screen normally, and then sits on a black screen forever more after that. To me, this is a sign that the disk is bad. I am contemplating opening a case because the text in the ad said "disk is scratched but works perfectly". I have been communicating with the seller, and he has told me things like "certain DCs don't read certain games" (which I could see for later ones, but mine's a Sept. 99) so I should try on another system, which I would, but I have no other system to try it on. he also says my console might be dying because apparently the same happened to him, but I think it's odd when other stuff like NFL 2K, Crazy Taxi, Jet Grind Radio, and me being able to use Utopia to boot an import work there too

I'm sorry if this is simple, but I just got my first DC for Christmas, very new to all the quirks of the system (of which I do know there are many), seeing if I should just go over this guy's head to eBay's thing about not getting what was advertised

There is a good chance the seller is telling the truth and the game worked for him.

I have Dreamcasts that take one game but not the other, and vice versa.

But he might also be fucking with you... lol

Maybe try to resurface it in a shop somewhere.

If it works you might try to ask for a small refund to offset the cost.

Maybe suggest that to the seller and see how he responds. Some sellers do work with you.

Yeah dc's are fickle beasts. iv'e had trouble with both of mine.
Try loading a game that works, then open the lid, power off the dc and take the disk out. Put in the non-working disk, close lid and power-on. It workded for me with the ghost blade. Also try closing the lid a little more forcefully, just a little. It might be the lid switch is not sometimes fully connecting, thus not starting up the gdrom drive. Oddly after a time my dc now boots up the ghost blade on its own...

I would have done the thing about resurfacing already, but I've been paranoid hearing things about resurfacing GD-ROMs fucks with them, and Iw ant the guy to get the disc back in the condition he sent it to me just in case the resurfacing screws it up more

I've brought DC games back from the dead before. So it's not impossible.

It's always a risk though. Even with non-DC games it doesn't always work.

If the scratches are close to the inner ring or too big resurfacing might not work.

Also depends on the machine they use and how long they let it resurface.

Your call my man. But like I said, talk to the seller.

Try to work something out that works for the both of you.

If he says go, I will take it to get resurfaced. I also have a game coming in tomorrow (Tokyo Xtreme Racer), and if the resurfacing doesn't work, will just send it back. If the TXR also doesn't work and looks good, mnight just take it as it might be my DC with that kind of lick, though at this point, just think it's odd that my entire library (10 games that I got at X-mas) worked byt now this doesn't)
